Alternative Delivery Options

Organisations may choose to use the Context learning materials in different ways and can consider other methods of replication, these may include:

  • Materials are used as part of an internal learning programme. This is possible and may be useful, but participants and their agencies may lose important benefits such as inter-organisational comparisons and networking; also, if a programme is run regionally rather than nationally, there is the risk of a language barrier.
  • There may be a consortium-based follow-up programme. Ideally, national facilitators will be developed and deployed. This would reduce the language barrier and allow for participation of smaller national NGOs that are so important for smaller emergencies and grassroots DRR work.
  • Participants may go on to train their colleagues and partners. Context programmes are not ‘training-of-trainers’ courses. To increase the chance that such training activities are useful, basic training outlines should be provided to participants.

Please see Chapter 9 of the Programme Guide for other important aspects relating to alternative delivery options for Context programmes.
